My First Pattern: the 2020 Baby Blanket

As a yarn Enthusiast, naturally when I found out I was pregnant I began making items for my child to be.

This blanket was one of the first things I made and the first I invented a pattern for.

Earlier in the year when I had first moved to Washington, a new friend shared a gift with me. I received an entire yarn stash from a woman who no longer wanted hers. In this yarn stash, I had a good amount of yarn I had no idea what to do with, which is where this pattern is born from.

It works up really nice with two strands of yarn and is a fairly easy pattern to complete. This could also be thought of as my first baby blanket type of pattern for those who are new to knitting. It's fun to make for yourself and your baby or for a friend and their baby.

My first blanket I made with this pattern knitting in the passenger seat of the car while my mother-in-law drove us through a snowstorm in Kansas. I was about 20 weeks pregnant at the time.

Baby J, my firstborn, was due June 20th, 2020 hence the significance of the 20 in the blanket.

so, without further ado, here is the pattern. Let me know if you try it and how it goes!

—————-

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver. I used white and yellow for this one, but pumpkin and white, as well as light blue and cherry red make a great combo!

Needles: 7 mm Circular. I love this full kit here, the Bamboo is really nice to work with.

Stitch Markers: This is the kit I have. While you can get away with not using them, stitch makers will make this project a whole lot easier, and you may find you like to use them again!

Select the two colors you wish to use together and holding both strands together cast on 100 stitches.

Row 1: Continuing to hold the two strands together <<knit 20 stitches. Place a stitch marker. Pearl 20 stitches.>> Repeat from <<to>> until you reach the end. There should be five sections.

Row 2: <<Pearl 20 stitches. At the stitch marker switch and knit 20 stitches.>> Repeat until the end.

tip: Use the stitch markers every 20 stitches to help you keep track of when to switch!

Row 3-20: Repeat Rows one and two alternating.

Row 21- 40: <<Knit 20 stitches. Pearl 20 stitches>> repeat until the end.

Row 41-60: Repeat Rows 1-20

Row 61-80: Repeat Row 21-40

Bind off.

The blanket will have 20 squares of 20 stitches by 20 rows. Hence the name!
